Rawalpindi, (TW News) __ The announcement of election results of the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) turned into a memorable moment in the history of journalism as hundreds of journalists gathered to witness the event. Due to the limited capacity of the National Press Club hall, a large number of journalists were compelled to stand in the courtyard to hear the results, reflecting their strong confidence in the union.

According to the official results, Asif Bashir Choudhary was elected President, Bashir Usmani General Secretary, and Izhar Khan Niazi Finance Secretary.

Similarly, Tausif Abbasi and Warshaid Malik were elected Vice Presidents, while Rana Farhan Aslam and Raja Imran Janjua were elected as Joint Secretaries.

The members elected to the Executive Council include Ali Akhtar, Ghufran Chishti, Asad Sharr, Nawabzada Shah Ali, Hamid Abbasi, Ijaz Fikri, Dost Muhammad, Shehzad Rajput, and Noor Aiman Zahra.

Addressing the gathering, PFUJ President Afzal Butt said that the overwhelming participation of journalists had reaffirmed that the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) is the only true representative platform dedicated to safeguarding journalists’ rights, dignity, and freedom of the press.

He added that the event was not merely an announcement of election results but a collective expression of commitment toward protecting journalists’ economic rights and ensuring press freedom. Afzal Butt also expressed heartfelt gratitude to all journalists whose presence strengthened and legitimized the democratic process.

He concluded by urging the journalist community to remain united in the struggle for their rights and to continue playing their role in promoting transparent, responsible, and independent journalism.
