Brussels, (Unib Rashid) – President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has convened a meeting of the European Security College to review the recent attack on Iran and the subsequent strikes by Iran on U.S. targets in various Gulf countries. According to the Commission, the meeting will be held on Monday.

Earlier, European leaders in Brussels issued a joint statement regarding the joint U.S. and Israeli attack on Iran, describing the developments as deeply concerning. “We are in close contact with our partners in the region,” the statement said.

The statement reaffirmed the European Union’s strong commitment to safeguarding regional security and stability. It emphasized ensuring nuclear safety and preventing any actions that could escalate tensions or undermine the global nuclear non-proliferation regime.

Criticizing the Iranian leadership, the statement further noted that the European Union has imposed extensive sanctions in response to the actions of Iran’s government and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. It added that the EU has consistently promoted diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving issues related to Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs through negotiations.
