Pakistan’s Peace Efforts Between US and Iran Added Over $3 Trillion to Global Wealth: Economist Atif Mian.

Brussels, (Unib Rashid) – Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between the United States and Iran have effectively made the world more than $3 trillion richer, according to renowned economist Atif Mian.

Mian stated that on April 7, global tensions escalated sharply following an ultimatum by Donald Trump, warning that “an entire civilization could die tonight.” By midday, prediction platform Polymarket had placed the chances of a ceasefire at less than 5%.

However, in a dramatic turnaround, last-minute diplomacy led by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shifted the probability of a ceasefire from near-impossible to almost certain. Both American and Iranian leadership publicly acknowledged Pakistan’s critical role in achieving the breakthrough.

The rapid shift in ceasefire expectations provided a clear estimate of the market value of Pakistan’s diplomacy. Around the time of the ceasefire announcement, the S&P 500 surged by 2.9%.

Mian explained that global markets represent approximately $125 trillion in value, meaning a 2.9% increase translates into a gain of about $3.6 trillion worldwide. “Pakistan effectively helped increase global wealth by trillions,” he noted.

He added that beyond the financial gains, the most significant outcome is Pakistan’s emerging image as a global peacemaker. Mian expressed hope that Pakistan will carry this identity forward by promoting peace not only internationally but also domestically—moving away from division and exclusion toward inclusivity for all citizens.
