Brussels, (Unib Rashid) – President of the European Council, António Costa, has expressed his best wishes for the success of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts regarding the Middle East situation. He conveyed these sentiments during a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif.

António Costa stated that he spoke with the Prime Minister to hear Pakistan’s assessment of the ongoing situation, including the outcomes of the recent consultations held in Islamabad among the Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye, as well as developments related to the Iran war.

He noted that the European Union is deeply concerned about the prolongation of the conflict and its growing global repercussions. “I extend my best wishes for Pakistan’s peace efforts. The European Union supports all mediation initiatives,” he said.

He further emphasized that only dialogue and diplomacy, with full respect for the United Nations Charter and international law, can restore peace and stability in the Middle East.
