British High Commission Delegation Engages with Luton Community on Dual Nationality Challenges

London, (Shahzad Ali) __ A delegation from the British High Commission in Islamabad convened at Jamia Islamia Ghosia Trust UK on Tuesday to address the complexities faced by British nationals with dual citizenship, particularly those of Pakistani descent.

The delegation included Ms. Alice Moss, Consul General for Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan, alongside Foreign Office officials, Melissa Hanson and Miss Hala from UK HQ. The meeting brought together local councillors, community leaders, and representatives from various ideological perspectives within the community.

The primary objective of the visit was to elucidate the support mechanisms available to dual nationals encountering legal and administrative challenges in Pakistan. Participants endorsed the British High Commission’s proactive stance in offering assistance with legal disputes, consular protection, and visa-related services.

Following Ms. Alice’s detailed presentation, Allama Qazi Abdul Aziz Chishti MBE formally welcomed the delegation. Mr. Mark Fowler, Chief Executive of Luton Borough Council, acknowledged the significant contributions of the Pakistani and Kashmiri communities to the multicultural landscape of Luton.

The meeting was attended by prominent figures including Cllr Raja Mohammad Aslam Khan, leader of the Luton Conservative Party group; former Luton Mayors Ch Masaud Akhtar, Riaz Butt and Tahir Mahmood Malik; Haji Chaudhry Muhammad Qurban, coordinator of the Luton Kashmir Solidarity Campaign; as well as Labour party Councillors—Cllr Basit Mehmood, Cllr Ghulam Abbas, Cllr Khtija Malik, Cllr Zainab Raja—and Lib Dem Councillors Cllr Amjad Ali and Cllr Anwar Malik. Other distinguished attendees encompassed Syed Hussain Shaheed Sarwar, Shabir Hussain Malik, Professor Mumtaz Butt, Ch Abdul Qayyum, Ch Abdul Ghaffar, Fayyaz Qureshi, Qazi Siraj Ul Murtza, and Ch Jehangir Ahmed, among others.
