London, (Shahzad Ali) __ In a significant diplomatic endeavor, Federal Minister for Commerce Mr. Jam Kamal Khan led Pakistan’s delegation for the inaugural launch of the UK-Pakistan Trade Dialogue Mechanism in London. The UK delegation was headed by The Right Hon. Douglas Alexander MP, Secretary of State for Business and Trade.
The event was graced by High Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Faisal, underscoring the importance of this collaborative initiative. This Dialogue establishes a robust institutional framework aimed at enhancing trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two nations. Both parties reaffirmed their dedication to utilizing this platform to identify market opportunities, remove existing trade barriers, and foster collaboration across various sectors.
During the discussions, the Pakistani delegation effectively showcased the nation’s expanding export capacities, particularly in high-value sectors such as information technology, renewable energy, agri-tech, and pharmaceuticals. The UK representatives acknowledged Pakistan’s potential as a vital trade partner and expressed keen interest in expanding commercial linkages under the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS).
With the endorsement of comprehensive Terms of Reference, this Dialogue paves the way for structured engagement through joint working groups and regular reviews. The discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration in critical areas, including digital trade, sustainable supply chains, and institutional partnerships.
The launch of the UK-Pakistan Trade and Investment Dialogue marks a shared vision for a dynamic and mutually beneficial economic partnership. It is anticipated to catalyze increased trade volumes, foster job creation, and contribute to the long-term development of both nations.
