Brussels, (Unib Rashid) – Around 42,000 people in Brussels will lose their right to unemployment benefits starting from July, while nearly 17,000 of them will also not fully qualify for assistance from CPAS.
Reacting to the new reforms, Councillor Nasir Chaudhry said that although these measures are intended to encourage people towards employment, the reality is that Brussels is already facing severe inflation, rising rents, a housing crisis, and high unemployment.
He stated that suddenly cutting financial support for thousands of families without providing suitable jobs, training opportunities, housing, and real alternatives could push many citizens towards helplessness, debt, mental stress, and poverty.
He further emphasized that a balanced policy is needed where employment opportunities are created while also ensuring protection for vulnerable citizens, because in a civilized society, no individual should be left alone during difficult times.
