Brussels, (Unib Rashid) — European leadership has strongly welcomed the two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, facilitated by Pakistan, expressing hope that it will lead to lasting peace in the region.
In this regard, President of the European Council Antonio Costa, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas issued separate statements today. In their messages, they expressed great satisfaction that a diplomatic path was found at the last moment amid rising tensions.

They also appreciated Pakistan and its leadership for their tireless efforts in facilitating the negotiations and indicated readiness to support ongoing diplomatic initiatives.
In his statement, European Council President Antonio Costa said, “I welcome the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran. I urge all parties to uphold its terms to achieve sustainable peace in the region. The European Union stands ready to support ongoing efforts and remains in close contact with partners in the region. I thank Pakistan and all parties involved in facilitating this agreement.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated, “I welcome last night’s two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran. It is a much-needed de-escalation amid ongoing tensions. I thank Pakistan for its mediation. It is now essential that negotiations continue towards a lasting resolution of this conflict. We will remain coordinated with our partners in pursuit of this goal.”
Similarly, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas said, “The ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran marks a step back from the brink after weeks of escalating tensions. It provides a crucial opportunity to reduce risks, halt missile activity, resume shipping, and create space for diplomacy towards a sustainable agreement. The Strait of Hormuz must remain open for navigation.”

She further added, “I spoke with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and thanked him for his role in securing this initial agreement. The door for mediation must remain open, as the root causes of the conflict are yet to be resolved. The European Union is ready to support these efforts and remains engaged with partners in the region. I will also discuss this matter today in Saudi Arabia.”
