Brussels, (Unib Rashid) – The Government of Pakistan has approved a comprehensive restructuring of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC). This was announced by SIFC Secretary Jameel Qureshi.
In his statement, he described the day as a historic moment for Pakistan’s agricultural sector. He said that a transformative decision has been taken with the in-principle approval of PARC’s restructuring. The vision is to elevate PARC to the standards of the China Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and develop it into a world-class research institution that effectively serves Pakistan’s farmers and food security needs.

The key initiatives include the establishment of five new Centers of Excellence focusing on high-yield seeds, superior livestock, precision agriculture, AI-driven farm mechanization, and food processing. The plan also emphasizes strong governance, top-tier research talent, and meaningful international partnerships.
Additionally, the reforms aim to create a direct linkage between agricultural research and industry, while improving coordination with provincial governments through SIFC to ensure better impact at the grassroots level.
Jameel Qureshi reiterated that SIFC is fully committed to supporting major reforms in the agriculture sector, which remains a top priority. He noted that Pakistan holds immense agricultural potential and, with the right institutional backing, the country can achieve significant progress in food security and export growth.
He further added that a detailed roadmap is being developed and that the momentum for reform is real.
